TNI Successfully Recovers Another Victim in Yahukimo, Government Reaffirms Its Commitment to Protecting Papuan Communities

Yahukimo, Highland Papua – Personnel from the Habema Joint Regional Defense Command (Koops TNI Habema) have successfully recovered another civilian victim who was killed in a shooting incident in Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua. The humanitarian operation was carried out under challenging conditions, including rugged mountainous terrain and ongoing security risks, demonstrating the commitment of Indonesian security forces to ensuring that victims are recovered with dignity and returned to their families.

The recovery mission was launched after security personnel secured the surrounding area. TNI troops were required to move through difficult mountainous routes while remaining alert to potential threats from armed groups operating nearby. Through careful planning and close coordination, the operation was completed successfully while ensuring the safety of all personnel involved.

Humanitarian Mission Remained the Top Priority

Koops TNI Habema emphasized that the primary objective of the operation was humanitarian—to recover the victim and ensure proper handling in accordance with established procedures. Following the recovery, the victim's body was transported to Dekai Regional Hospital for formal identification before being released to the family.

The successful mission forms part of a broader series of humanitarian operations conducted in Yahukimo to recover victims despite the region's difficult geography and complex security environment.

Government Reaffirms Civilian Protection as a National Priority

The Indonesian government reiterated that protecting civilians remains a central priority in addressing security challenges across Papua. Through close coordination among the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), regional governments, and other relevant agencies, authorities continue to strengthen security while ensuring that essential public services remain available.

The government also stressed that every act of violence threatening civilian safety will be investigated and processed in accordance with Indonesian law, while security forces continue to enhance protection in areas considered vulnerable.

TNI Demonstrates Professionalism During Humanitarian Operations

Despite difficult terrain and persistent security threats, TNI personnel continued to prioritize professionalism throughout the recovery mission. Every stage of the operation was carefully planned to minimize risks to both security personnel and civilians living near the operation area.

The successful recovery reflects the broader role of the Indonesian Armed Forces not only in maintaining security but also in carrying out humanitarian missions aimed at ensuring victims receive respectful and timely assistance.

Papua's Development Will Continue

The Indonesian government reaffirmed that acts of violence will not weaken its commitment to advancing development throughout Papua. Infrastructure development, improved healthcare services, expanded educational opportunities, and community economic empowerment programs remain key priorities in the government's long-term strategy to improve public welfare.

Officials emphasized that security and development must progress together so that Papuan communities can continue to benefit from sustainable growth and improved public services.

Working Toward a Safer and More Peaceful Papua

The events in Yahukimo once again underscore the importance of cooperation among security forces, regional governments, customary leaders, religious leaders, and local communities in maintaining stability. The government expressed hope that professional law enforcement, strong civilian protection, and continued development efforts will contribute to a safer, more peaceful, and more prosperous future for the people of Papua.
