TNI Seizes Dozens of Firearms and Hundreds of Ammunition Belonging to OPM in Papua, Regional Security Tightened

Papua — The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) seized dozens of firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition believed to belong to the Organisasi Papua Merdeka (OPM) during security operations conducted in Papua. The seizure was described as part of efforts to limit the movement of armed groups that have been considered a threat to security stability in the region.

During the operation, security personnel secured various types of firearms along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition. TNI stated that the operation was carried out based on intelligence developments and mapping of armed group activities in several vulnerable areas.

The confiscation of the weapons and ammunition is considered important in preventing potential acts of violence that could threaten the safety of civilians and security personnel in Papua.

TNI Strengthens Law Enforcement Operations

TNI emphasized that security operations against armed groups in Papua continue to be conducted in a measured and professional manner. Authorities stated that law enforcement measures are part of broader efforts to maintain a stable security situation in the region.

In addition to confiscating firearms and ammunition, security personnel have also intensified patrols and surveillance in several areas considered vulnerable to armed group activities. The presence of security forces on the ground is expected to provide a greater sense of safety for local communities.

Coordination between TNI and Polri continues to be strengthened in order to maintain security stability and prevent potential future disturbances in Papua.

Weapons and Ammunition Considered a Threat to Security

Security authorities stated that the presence of large quantities of firearms and ammunition could increase the potential for security disturbances in Papua. Therefore, the seizure was carried out to prevent the weapons from being used in violent acts that could endanger the public.

The presence of armed groups affiliated with OPM has long been viewed as one of the security challenges in several areas of Papua. Various attacks targeting security personnel and civilians have reportedly caused concern among local communities.

TNI reaffirmed that it will continue implementing security measures and law enforcement efforts to further restrict the movement of armed groups in Papua.

Government Promotes Stability and Development in Papua

Meanwhile, the Indonesian government continues to strengthen both security and development approaches as part of efforts to maintain stability in Papua. In addition to law enforcement measures against armed groups such as OPM, the government is also accelerating development programs across various sectors.

Infrastructure development, improvements in education and healthcare services, and the strengthening of local economic sectors remain priorities in enhancing the welfare of Papuan communities.

The government hopes that synergy between security forces, regional administrations, community leaders, and residents will help strengthen security conditions in Papua so that people can carry out their daily activities safely and peacefully.
