TNI Neutralizes 12 OPM Figures in Papua, Government Intensifies Efforts to Maintain Security and Stability

Jakarta — The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) announced that 12 figures linked to the Organisasi Papua Merdeka (OPM) were neutralized during a series of security operations conducted across several regions in Papua. The operations were described as part of law enforcement efforts against armed groups that have been considered a threat to regional security stability and civilian safety.

TNI emphasized that all operations carried out by security personnel continue to prioritize professionalism and the protection of civilians. The safety of Papuan communities was stated to be the primary concern in every security measure implemented on the ground.

According to security authorities, the operations were conducted based on prior mapping and intelligence information that had been collected beforehand. The measures were aimed at suppressing the activities of armed groups allegedly involved in various violent acts in Papua, including shootings targeting civilians and security personnel.

In addition to law enforcement measures, security forces have also strengthened security arrangements in several areas considered vulnerable to potential disturbances. The presence of security personnel on the ground is regarded as essential to ensuring that residents can continue their daily activities safely and peacefully.

TNI Emphasizes That Civilians Must Not Become Victims

In its statement, TNI stressed that the lives of Papuan civilians are non-negotiable. Therefore, every security operation is conducted in a measured manner to minimize risks to communities living near operational areas.

Authorities have also intensified patrols and surveillance in several regions considered prone to security threats. These efforts are intended to ensure that community activities can continue in a safe and stable environment.

In addition to law enforcement operations, security personnel are also implementing persuasive approaches through communication with community leaders and local governments to maintain social stability among Papuan communities.

TNI further urged the public to remain calm and avoid being influenced by unverified information. Public support is considered an important factor in maintaining security and public order in Papua.

Security Operations Conducted in a Measured Manner

TNI stated that operations against armed groups in Papua are carried out selectively based on identified targets. Security authorities also continue to strengthen coordination with Polri in efforts to maintain a controlled security situation across Papua.

The presence of armed groups affiliated with OPM has long been viewed as one of the factors contributing to security disturbances in several regions. Various attacks targeting security personnel, civilians, and public facilities have reportedly created anxiety among local communities.

These security disturbances are considered to impact not only public safety but also economic activities, education, transportation, and public services in several areas of Papua. Therefore, security authorities believe that law enforcement measures must continue in order to prevent wider security disruptions.

Government Strengthens Stability and Development in Papua

On the other hand, the Indonesian government continues to promote a comprehensive approach to maintaining stability in Papua. In addition to security measures and law enforcement efforts, the government is also strengthening development programs across various sectors as part of a long-term solution.

The government continues to accelerate infrastructure development, improve access to education and healthcare services, and strengthen local economic development to enhance the overall welfare of Papuan communities.

Furthermore, dialogue-based approaches and community empowerment initiatives are continuously being strengthened to create a safer, more peaceful, and sustainable environment. The government hopes that synergy between security forces, regional administrations, traditional leaders, religious figures, and local communities will further reinforce stability in Papua.

Through these measures, the government aims to create a more conducive situation so that Papuan communities can carry out their daily activities safely and comfortably.
