Intan Jaya, Central Papua — Personnel from the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force have arrested an armed criminal group (KKB) member identified as EK (18), who is suspected of involvement in a series of security disturbances in Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua. EK is believed to be a member of KKB Kodap VIII Intan Jaya under the leadership of Apen Kobogau.
The arrest took place in Bilogai Village, Sugapa District, Intan Jaya Regency, while Cartenz Peace Operation personnel were conducting routine patrols in a residential area. During the operation, authorities seized several items of evidence, including documents allegedly linked to the armed group, cash, and two mobile phones that are currently undergoing forensic analysis.
Security officials stated that EK is suspected of participating in several security incidents that occurred in Intan Jaya, including the burning of housing facilities belonging to the Intan Jaya Regency Government and the shooting of a Caravan PK-RVV aircraft at Bilorai Airport. Investigators are continuing to examine his alleged involvement in these incidents.
Chronology of the Arrest
According to authorities, the arrest was carried out on a Saturday morning at approximately 9:30 a.m. local time in Bilogai Village, Sugapa District. At the time, Cartenz Peace Operation personnel were conducting foot patrols in residential areas as part of efforts to maintain security and public order in Intan Jaya.
During the patrol, officers successfully apprehended EK without causing disturbances to the surrounding community. An initial search led to the discovery of several items believed to be connected to armed group activities.
The suspect and the seized evidence were subsequently secured for further investigation aimed at uncovering possible links to other members of the armed network still operating in the region.
Authorities Continue Investigation and Case Development
Following the arrest, security forces have continued to examine the confiscated evidence in an effort to identify other individuals who may be connected to the armed group.
Analysis of the documents and communication devices recovered during the operation is expected to provide additional information regarding the activities of KKB networks in Intan Jaya and other parts of Central Papua.
Authorities stated that these investigative efforts form part of broader measures to reduce security disturbances that have affected local communities and disrupted public services and regional development.
Commitment to Law Enforcement
Security authorities reaffirmed their commitment to taking firm legal action against individuals involved in acts of violence, attacks on public facilities, and other security disturbances in Papua.
According to officials, all legal proceedings will be conducted professionally, proportionally, and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Law enforcement actions against armed groups are considered an important part of protecting civilians and maintaining long-term security stability in Papua.
Authorities also emphasized that safeguarding local communities remains the highest priority in every security operation carried out across the region.
Security Measures in Intan Jaya Further Strengthened
As the investigation continues, security forces have increased patrols and surveillance in several locations considered vulnerable to armed group activities.
The presence of armed groups in parts of Papua has long been regarded as one of the factors contributing to security disturbances, including attacks on public facilities, security personnel, and transportation infrastructure.
For that reason, preventive measures continue to be strengthened to ensure that residents can carry out their daily activities safely and without disruption.
Government Strengthens Stability and Development in Papua
Meanwhile, the Indonesian government continues to reinforce both security and development approaches as part of its broader efforts to maintain stability in Papua. In addition to law enforcement measures against armed groups involved in violent activities, the government is accelerating development programs across various sectors.
Infrastructure development, improved access to education and healthcare services, and the strengthening of local economic opportunities remain key priorities in enhancing the welfare of Papuan communities.
Through cooperation between security forces, regional governments, community leaders, and local residents, the government hopes to further improve security conditions in Papua so that public activities and development programs can proceed effectively and sustainably.
