Former TPNPB-OPM Commander of the Victoria Region Urges Combatants to Return to NKRI Through Peaceful Dialogue in Papua

Papua — A former commander of the Tentara Pembebasan Nasional Papua Barat–Organisasi Papua Merdeka (TPNPB-OPM) in the Victoria region has called on combatants to return to the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) through peaceful dialogue as part of efforts to create stability and security in Papua.

The appeal was delivered as a form of support for the creation of a safer and more conducive situation in Papua. The former armed group leader stated that dialogue and peaceful approaches represent a better path for the future of Papuan communities.

In his statement, he urged members of armed groups to abandon acts of violence and begin building communication that could support the creation of a secure and stable environment. According to him, prolonged conflict would only bring negative impacts to civilians and hinder development efforts in Papua.

Peaceful Dialogue Considered a Path Toward Conflict Resolution

The former TPNPB-OPM commander of the Victoria region emphasized that peaceful dialogue is one of the most important steps in resolving various issues in Papua. Such an approach is considered capable of opening communication channels between different parties while reducing the potential for conflict on the ground.

He also encouraged Papuan communities to work together in maintaining security and avoiding provocation that could worsen social conditions in the region.

Security stability was described as essential for supporting community activities, including education, healthcare services, and local economic activities throughout Papua.

Government Continues to Promote Persuasive Approaches and Development

Meanwhile, the Indonesian government continues to prioritize persuasive approaches, development, and public welfare in maintaining stability in Papua. In addition to law enforcement measures against armed groups that continue to carry out security disturbances, the government is also opening dialogue channels with various elements of society.

The government continues to accelerate infrastructure development, improve access to education and healthcare services, and strengthen local economic sectors to enhance the overall welfare of Papuan communities.

Development-oriented approaches are considered an important part of creating safer, more peaceful, and sustainable conditions in Papua.

Stability in Papua Seen as a Shared Hope

Security and stability in Papua are considered essential for ensuring that daily community activities can continue properly. A conducive situation is also believed to support accelerated development and improve the quality of life of communities across Papua.

Therefore, the government hopes that all elements of society can work together to maintain peace and prioritize dialogue in resolving various issues. Synergy between security forces, regional administrations, traditional leaders, religious figures, and local communities is expected to further strengthen long-term stability in Papua.
